Leachate Treatment Plant:

The leachate management and treatment system at Bukit Tagar sanitary landfill is considered the most advanced in this region.

The leachate treatment plant is a world-class fully automated facility, operated via the SCADA computer system. Among its features are:

• Holding ponds for leachate storage and aging
   
• Balancing tanks for leachate flow balancing and distribution
   
• Sequential batch reactor lagoons providing main biological
  treatment
   
• Dissolved air flotation tank for removal of residual suspended
  solids and colloidal particles
   
• Sludge thickening tank for regular sludge removal
   
• Fully computerised and automated operation of pumps,
  electrical actuated valves, dosing mechanisms and aerators
  via the SCADA system
   

Reed beds

Among the unique features of Bukit Tagar sanitary landfill is the incorporation of reed beds to achieve optimum level of effluent treatment, the first of its kind in the region.

Fragmitis plants in the reed beds absorb residues in treated leachate to maximise the treatment standard
